As some of you will know I have a fetish for English literature that gets the heart and brain matter ticking. Here is a Booker prize winner that is deep and telling of the human heart in dealing with such matters as grief. Four men, related to the deceased in different ways obey the last wishes of their friend and father to scatter his ashes from the Margate pier. Each chapter is narrated by each of the characters and you get glimpses of how they related to the deceased and how all their lives are interwoven and shaped by each other. I suppose it is just a slice of real life... my favourite.
